Beware The Odes Of March
Rosés are light red and some cheeses are blue. The title joke is inaccurate, but what can you do?
St. Supéry, St. Supéry,
We find your wines remarkably
Enticing, so it brings us glee
When we are told we will get three
Of your fine wines, St. Supéry.
The Merlot, first, it’s quite tasty
Or, at least, it seems to be,
Because we read of black cherry
And hints of currant, raspberry,
And a kiss of smoke concludingly
Plus ripe plum that we’ll find toasty
And cinnamon, cedar, and briar, oui?
Your Merlot is quite fine by me,
So thank you much, St. Supéry.
Up next, the Cab, so please agree
The mouth feel comes luxuriously
A mix of current and then cherry,
plush cassis and some blueberry
It’s young, but age it and you’ll see
It will come out so beautifully,
Malbec! Malbec! It’s wine three!
Grown 2006, in January
When rains came down like Heaven’s sea
And cool wet weather, perfectly
made this nice Malbec from St. Supéry.
It smells of clove, and rose hip, whee!
Tobacco too, but let it breathe
Then unfurl for you will blueberry,
A hint of chocolate, and cherry,
And smokey tannins, but gently!
This wine will save quite happily.
So let it evolve naturally,
And in a decade you will be
Drinking a glass in ecstasy.
St. Supéry, St. Supéry,
Your wines make us oh so happy
Especially since we’re getting three
You must have gone to intercede
With Bacchus, god of wineries
And to you, oh blessed St. Supéry
And all your wines, of which there’s three.
We dedicate our poetry,
And now a drink we need. Really.
